Eco-Friendly Synthesis of Functionalized Carbon Nanodots from Cashew Nut Skin Waste for Bioimaging

In this study, Anacardium occidentale (A. occidentale) nut skin waste (cashew waste) was used as a raw material to synthesize functionalized carbon nanodots (F-CNDs). A. biomass-derived F-CNDs were synthesized at low temperature (200 °C) using facile, economical hydrothermal method and subjected XRD, FESEM, TEM, HRTEM, XPS, Raman Spectroscopy, ATR-FTIR, Ultraviolet-visible (UV–vis) absorption fluorescence spectroscopy determine their structures, chemical compositions, optical properties. The analysis revealed that dispersed, hydrophilic had mean diameter of 2.5 nm. XPS ATR-FTIR showed crystalline core an amorphous surface decorated with –NH2, –COOH, C=O. addition, quantum yield 15.5% exhibited maximum emission 406 nm when excited 340 Human colon cancer (HCT-116) cell assays readily penetrated into the cells, outstanding biocompatibility, high photostability, minimal toxicity. An MTT assay viability HCT-116 cells incubated for 24 h in presence μg mL–1) exceeded 95%. Furthermore, stimulated by filters three different wavelengths (405, 488, 555 nm) under laser scanning confocal microscope, containing emitted blue, red, green, respectively, which suggests might be useful biomedical field. Thus, we describe production fluorescent nanoprobe from cashew potentially suitable bioimaging applications.
